I am a third grade teacher at River Bend Elementary School who loves to read! I am just like a kid when I find a new book!
Students love the creativity provided in this book. The Day the Crayons Came Home is the sequel to the bestselling book, The Day the Crayons Quit. Each page provides a friendly letter written by a crayon to their owner. The colorful crayons voice concerns that range from lost in the couch to running away to see the world. Students at all levels in the elementary classroom can enjoy the humor and personality that each crayon brings. Plus, the gross-factor that a few crayons add pulls in most children. Personally, I LOVE the drama that Esteban the Magnificent, formerly known as Pea Green, brings.
This book is not only a great way to introduce friendly letter writing concepts, but also ideal for teaching diversity. Each crayon, i.e. student, is unique and has its issues, but they all have a place to call home. This book can be used to open discussions on people's differences and unique qualities that makes each one special.
