I love Holly Black as an author. This is the second book that I’ve read of hers. Tana is a normal girl living in a world where Coldtowns, vampire quarantined cities, exist. Once you enter a Coldtown, you cannot leave. Tana must venture into a Coldtown to find answers. Will she be able to return to her family again?
The setting and premise of the book is fantastic! Vampires are seen in a totally different light (pun intended) in this book. To me, the book shows that, like humans, there are good and evil in every vampire. Middle schoolers are sure to love Tana as a reluctant hero and there was just the right amount of action and gore. While I felt sometimes the author didn’t give me a clear goal for Tana’s journey, the setting and idea of the book kept me coming back. I want to visit the Springfield Coldtown and am hoping for a sequel.
